From Heartbreak to New Life: Salvation and Holy Spirit Baptism

An unexpected encounter in a peaceful Ontario park led a woman carrying years of rejection and heartbreak to receive Jesus as her Saviour. Days later, she brought a friend to a miracle meeting, where both women received the baptism in the Holy Spirit and began speaking in tongues.

It was a beautiful summer evening during my ministry travels across Ontario. I had gone to a peaceful park beside a river, hoping to spend some quiet time preparing for two revival meetings I would be preaching at later that week. It had been a busy day of ministry, laundry, travelling and taking care of all the little things that come with living on the road. I was finally ready to sit down at a picnic table, open my binder and work on my sermon notes. But the Lord had something else planned!

I had been praying and asking the Lord to bring people across my path whose hearts were ready to receive Him. I wanted to meet those who were hungry to know Jesus, those who needed His love and those who were ready for a new beginning. That evening, He answered my prayer.

A woman came walking by with her dog, who wandered over to where I was sitting. We began talking, and she noticed my binder and asked what I was doing. I explained that I was a travelling minister preparing to preach at some upcoming meetings. I told her I had travelled across Canada to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. Then I shared something the Holy Spirit had spoken to my heart years ago: “Tell them that I love them and tell them about Me.”

So I looked at her and told her that God loved her with an undying love. Immediately, she began to weep. I could see that those words had touched something deep inside her heart.

Over the next couple of hours, she began opening up about her life. She had experienced years of rejection, verbal abuse and emotional neglect beginning in childhood. She told me how religion and even Scripture had sometimes been used to hurt her rather than show her the love of God. She had tried to forgive those who had hurt her, but the pain had continued for years. She also shared how she had experienced an abusive marriage and the heartbreak of broken family relationships. She was carrying so much disappointment, grief and sorrow. Although she had been trying to move forward with her life, she still felt lost and uncertain about her future.

At one point, she told me that she simply didn't know what to do anymore. My heart went out to her. As I listened, I could sense such compassion rising up inside me. The Holy Spirit began giving me the words to speak, and I found myself ministering to her so gently and lovingly. I wasn't giving her another religious lesson. I was telling her about Jesus and the love He had for her.

I explained that Christianity isn't about trying to earn God's acceptance through religion. It is about receiving Jesus Christ and entering into a personal relationship with Him. I told her that her past did not have to determine her future and that she was precious and valuable in the eyes of God. She was a woman of worth, deeply loved by her Heavenly Father.

I explained what it means to be born again and how receiving Jesus as Lord and Saviour would be the beginning of a new life in Him. And she was ready! Right there in that peaceful park, she prayed with me and received Jesus Christ as her Lord and Saviour. What a beautiful moment!

I told her that this was the first day of her new life with Jesus. She was now a child of God, and she could begin learning to see herself the way He sees her. We continued talking about renewing our minds through the Word of God, learning who we are in Christ, and allowing the Holy Spirit to lead and guide us.

She told me that a Christian friend had recently been encouraging her and teaching her about faith. I could see how the Lord had already been preparing her heart long before we met. I gave her a New Testament Bible that would be easier for her to understand, along with two Christian teaching books about healing and spiritual authority.

As our conversation came to an end, she told me something remarkable. She hadn't even planned to come to the park that evening. She had simply felt led to go there. I smiled because I knew exactly what had happened. This was a divine appointment! What I thought was going to be an evening of sermon preparation had become an opportunity to lead someone to Jesus.

From Salvation in the Park to the Power of the Holy Spirit

Before we parted ways, I told her about the miracle ministry meeting I would be holding later that week and invited her to come. And she did! Not only did she come, but she brought a friend with her.

That evening, as I preached the Gospel and ministered to those who had gathered, the Holy Spirit moved powerfully. People responded to the Word, came forward for prayer, and opened their hearts to receive from God. During the altar ministry, I had the joy of praying with both women.

The woman I had met in the park received the baptism in the Holy Spirit and began speaking in tongues! And her friend also received the baptism in the Holy Spirit and began speaking in tongues! Praise the Lord!

Just a short time earlier, this precious woman had been sitting with me in a park, pouring out years of pain, rejection and sorrow. Now she had received Jesus as her Saviour and was experiencing the power and presence of the Holy Spirit in her life. And she had brought someone else along who also received!

This is what I love about following the leading of the Holy Spirit. We never know what God has planned for the day or whose heart He has already been preparing. I went to that park thinking I needed to prepare a sermon, but the Lord showed me that sometimes the greatest ministry happens when we simply make ourselves available to Him.

One conversation. One divine appointment. Salvation in the park. Two women baptized in the Holy Spirit at the miracle meeting.

What a wonderful testimony of the goodness and love of God! I am so grateful that the Lord allowed me to be part of their story. Jesus is still saving people, healing broken hearts, filling believers with His Holy Spirit and transforming lives today!
